Equinox Straw Side Table

The Equinox Side Table explores material transformation through repetition,
rhythm, and gradual tonal movement.

Local Egyptian wheat straw is individually selected, dyed by hand, and
assembled into a layered surface that shifts from lighter tones into deeper
saturated hues. Rather than functioning as a decorative application, the straw
marquetry becomes a material landscape shaped through accumulation. The
surface rises toward a Breccia marble top whose fragmented geological
composition mirrors the layered construction below. A brass connection
element joins the two volumes through structural precision while maintaining
visual lightness.

The work reflects the studio’s continuing exploration into how materials from
different origins can coexist without hierarchy. Within the piece, contrast is
not treated as opposition, but as interdependence.
